Periodontal Inflamed Surface Area Mediates the Link between Homocysteine and Blood Pressure

چکیده
Here, we assess the association between homocysteine (Hcy) serum levels and periodontal status in a large representative sample of National Health Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). Using 2001–2002 2003–2004 NHANES databases, participants with examination, medical self-reported data, blood pressure (BP) samples to determine complete count, C-reactive protein (CRP) Hcy levels. We then calculated inflamed surface area (PISA) epithelial (PESA). Multivariable regression analysis explored Hcy, measures BP. Mediation was performed understand effect PISA PESA link 4021 fulfilled inclusion criteria. showed significant correlations systolic BP, diastolic PISA, age. be significantly associated both for crude adjusted models (p < 0.01), but not > 0.05). Periodontal inflamed surface area: quantifying inflammatory burden.
BACKGROUND Currently, a large variety of classifications is used for periodontitis as a risk factor for other diseases. None of these classifications quantifies the amount of inflamed periodontal tissue, while this information is needed to assess the inflammatory burden posed by periodontitis. AIM To develop a classification of periodontitis that quantifies the amount of inflamed periodontal ...
متن کاملPeriodontal inflamed surface area as a novel numerical variable describing periodontal conditions
Purpose A novel index, the periodontal inflamed surface area (PISA), represents the sum of the periodontal pocket depth of bleeding on probing (BOP)-positive sites. In the present study, we evaluated correlations between PISA and periodontal classifications, and examined PISA as an index integrating the discrete conventional periodontal indexes. Methods This study was a cross-sectional subgro...
متن کاملRelationship between Periodontal Inflamed Surface Area [PISA] and anaerobic periodontal infections assessed by BANA [N-benzoyl-DL- arginine-β-napthylamide] assay
Background: chronic periodontitis is an inflammatory disease of the periodontium caused by microbial infection. The BANA test is a simple chairside test which allows the clinician to quantify the amount of anaerobic periodontal infection. PISA quantifies the inflammatory burden posed by periodontitis to cause systemic inflammatory response. By comparing the BANA test values with PISA, the valid...
متن کاملA Possible Link Between Insulin Resistance and Blood Pressure
Insulin resistance has recently been found to be a common feature of essential hypertension. We have tested the hypothesis that reduced skeletal muscle blood flow in response to insulin may at least partially account for the wide range of insulin sensitivity observed in normotensive subjects. To this end, we studied 19 lean (body mass index £27) subjects exhibiting basal mean arterial pressures...
متن کاملThe Link of Salt to Blood Pressure
By virtue of its central role in maintaining intravascular and extracellular volume, sodium is essential to human survival. Taste, habit, environment, genes, and behaviour probably all influence sodium intake. In view of the heterogeneity that characterizes humankind, it is remarkable that the vast majority of the world’s citizens, everywhere, given free access to salt, consume between 100 and ...
